“How can I help? That was the question I kept asking myself,” says former teen idol and television writer and producer Shaun Cassidy. He joins Billy Shore to talk about COVID-19 and his support for No Kid Hungry and the Santa Ynez community through his new ‘My First Crush’ wine label. “COVID came along and I saw a lot of our friends… farmers, growers and winemakers suddenly really hurting. Then I saw our schools close. I saw our restaurants close and I knew a lot of people were going to be in trouble,” explains Cassidy. My First Crush donates $2 to No Kid Hungry for every bottle sold. “I thought, here’s an opportunity to not only help the folks I live with, but to help all of these kids,” he says.
Cassidy’s early life in the spotlight shaped his views on community. “None of us are all that unique… My story is your story is the story of the people who I see in the audience. Our journeys have different details, but this shared experience can be bonding,” he reflects. “There is more in this experience that can ultimately bind us together and help us through it together.”
